Yocon

Generic name: Yohimbine hydrochloride
Other brand name: Yohimex

Yohimbine belongs to the class of medications called sympatholytics . It is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) for men. It is thought to work by increasing the body's production of certain chemicals that promote erections.

Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than the ones listed in these drug information articles. If you have not discussed this with your doctor or are not sure why you are taking this medication, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.

Yocon Dosage

  • This dosage is one 5.4-milligram tablet, 3 times a day.
  • If you experience nausea, dizziness, or nervousness, your doctor will reduce the dose to one-half tablet 3 times a day, and then increase it gradually back up to 1 tablet 3 times a day.

Uses of Yocon

  • Yohimbine (yo-HIM-been) is used to increase peripheral blood flow.
  • It is also used to dilate the pupil of the eye.
  • Yohimbine is used to treat and diagnose some types of impotence.

Side Effects of Yocon

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Yocon. Side effects may include:

  • Decreased urination, dizziness, flushing, headache, increase in blood pressure, increased heart rate, increased motor activity, irritability, nausea, nervousness, tremor.

Warnings and precautions before taking Yocon:

  • Yocon is generally not recommended for use by children, the elderly, or men with heart and kidney disease who also have a history of stomach or duodenal ulcer. The drug is also not recommended for men being treated for a psychiatric disorder.
  • Use with caution in the presence of depression, psychiatric illness or liver disease.
  • This medication should not be used by pregnant women.
  • This medication is not generally used by females.

Drug Interaction :- It is important that you consult with your doctor before taking Yocon with drugs for depression such as Elavil or other drugs that change mood. Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdose

Any medication taken in excess can cause symptoms of overdose. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. No specific symptoms of Yocon overdose have been reported.
