Aclovate Cream

Generic Name: alclometasone topical (al kloe MEH ta sone)

ALCLOMETASONE (Aclovate®) is a corticosteroid. Alclometasone treats skin problems that are accompanied by itching, redness, and swelling. Generic alclometasone skin creams and ointments are available.

Aclovate is a one of the synthetic steroids medications in the cortisone family of medications. It is applied topically in order to relieve the itching of some types of rashes that include psoriasis.

Aclovate Dosage

  • Once your condition is under control, you should stop using Aclovate. If you don't see any improvement within 2 weeks, check with your doctor.
  • Apply a thin film of Aclovate cream or ointment to the affected skin areas 2 or 3 times daily; massage gently until the medication disappears.

Uses of Aclovate

  • This medication is used to treat swelling, inflammation, and itching of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, rashes, insect bites, poison ivy, allergies and other irritations. Corticosteroids for the skin are available in different strengths and forms (e.g., creams, ointments, lotions and gels). The type of medication used depends on the location of your condition and the type of skin problem being treated.

Side Effects of Aclovate

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Aclovate. Side effects may include:

  • Acne-like pimples, allergic rash/inflammation, burning, dryness, infection, irritation, itching, pale spots, prickly heat, rash, redness, stretch marks on skin

Warnings and precautions before taking Aclovate:

  • This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy and only if clearly needed. Discuss the benefits and risks with your doctor. Small amounts of this medication may appear in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.
  • efore using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: circulation problems, glaucoma, impaired immune system.
  • This product is only for external use, and it’s important to not allow it to get into your eyes. Additionally, only use on your face, underarms, or groin is told to do so by the doctor. Never use it to treat diaper rash nor should it be applied in the diaper area as waterproof diapers or plastic pants can increase the absorption of Aclovate into the bloodstream.      

Drug Interaction :- Check with your doctor before combining Aclovate with other more potent steroids, since this could lead to undesirably large amounts of hormone circulating in your bloodstream.

Overdose

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

  • In a child, an overdose of Aclovate may cause increased pressure within the skull leading to bulging soft spots (in an infant's head) or headache. If this happens, see a doctor without delay.
  • Over the long term, overuse of Aclovate can interfere with a child's normal growth and development.
