Why our ears ring after a concert

It’s pretty normal to hear sounds or your ears ring after you have attended any concert that had higher decibels than normal. The average conversation decibel among humans is 85 dB. However, the sound at concerts is more than 85 dB ranging up to 105dB at times. The condition where the perception of sound when no noise or actual external music is present is known as tinnitus. Tinnitus is nothing but an audiological and neurological condition in which a person can experience ringing ears post-exposure to loud noises.

As a result, too extreme sound can damage the tiny hair of ear, and this damaged hair tends to send misinterpreted messages to the brain. In turn, the brain makes up sound in response to the misinterpreted message causing your ears to ring while there is no actual sound present.

Tips to Prevent ringing ears after a concert  :

i) Put on earplugs before heading to the concert
ii) Plan your seating according to the location of speakers
iii) Take small breaks to give your ears a break
iv) Consider ear protection for longer duration exposures

Remedies to stop ringing ears after a concert:

1) Reduce exposure to loud sound or high decibels: Even though the ears or brain recovers from the damage, its necessary to let it completely recover. Its recommended not to indulge in loud music or sound higher in dB than 85 if you are already experiencing ringing ears.

2) Avoid any triggers or stimulants: Studies say that people often feel more ringing when they eat or drink specific food, as it triggers the ear and brain cells. So it’s advised to avoid alcohol, caffeine, smoking, etc. as they are stimulants.

3) Put gentle music or white noise: The sound is often experienced when there is no other sound produced. You can try to shift on some calm and gentle music or tune to distract yourself from the ringing ears or put on some other white noise.

4) Distract your brain with meditation, yoga, or exercise: Distracting yourself from the sound is possible when you focus on something else, possibly with the help of meditation, yoga, or exercising. These activities also help in reducing stress, which is also a factor in tinnitus.

 A temporary tinnitus condition and disappears within a day or two but feels annoying and also disturbs sleep, also even a serious concern sometimes. So if you think the ringing in ears for more than a week, then definitely go to the specialist for treatment.
